Fire Plan

Do you have one? It's always been in the back of my mind to really have one in place, but here we are 2.5 years later and no official fire plan to speak of. The importance of having one came to the forefront when I got a call from my best friend on Monday. You know the news is going to be bad when the conversation is prefaced by "We're all ok, but...." Their house caught fire Sunday while preparing chicken wings for the football game. I was just sick upon hearing the news. As with most things, it takes something really unfortunate to wake you up and make something a priority. You can be sure this house will have a fire plan and an intensive review of our insurance policy.

In more exciting news, The Boss has been wowing me with her accomplishments. She's standing unassisted for longer and longer periods of time and has taken up to four steps on her own. Of course she delights more in collapsing into our laps once she gets there, but I can tell she's pretty excited to walk--or she loves the fuss we make at least! I think it will still be some time before she's walking most or all of the time though. Crawling is just way faster. She also realized she can climb the steps. Great, just great. We're now up to two words in addition to Mama and Dada. Fish-which really comes out like Eesh when we feed the fish everyday and No, which she says in response to us telling her no to something. Her food intake continues to be adventurous. I used to be so worried about spiced foods and such, but she really wants what we eat and definitely protests if her food is different. So far she's gobbled everything with gusto and I'll continue to ride this out until the picky toddler stage rears its head. Here she demonstrates the correct way to eat an olive. What? How else do you do it?

I am so sorry for your friend's loss! Having suffered an apartment fire and being displaced, I can honestly say I know how much it sucks. As well as how important good insurance is!

The Boss is just adorable, and seems to be as bright as her parents!

I realize that their birthdays are only 3 days apart, but I'm amazed at how on par our girls are physically. Although Heather has been climbing the stairs for 2 weeks now. ;-)

Great picture! Heather hasn't tried olives yet since mama doesn't like them...
