Strange bedfellows.

When I was young, I had my favorite toys and all, but I can't say I was ever really attached to anything in particular. I had two dolls, a Carebear, one Barbie and a boat load of books. None of which I slept with or carried around with any consistency. I thought The Boss was going to be the same way when at a year, she had failed to attach to any kind of lovey for bedtime. Even when Jen came to take her one year portraits and asked if there was any blanket or lovey I wanted in the pictures, I said no because there just wasn't one.
Fast forward seven months and we have quite the veritable bevy of sleep companions that accompany The Boss to bed. It all started with one. Pink Elephant. She was the original and sole lovey for 6 months. I liked Pink Elephant. Pink Elephant was small and easy to snuggle with when putting The Boss to bed. I especially liked how The Boss would snuggle with Pink Elephant while falling asleep. She'd lay on top of it while tucking her arms under herself (I call it her self swaddling method). Then we went to New York and our friends introduced Doggy. Ok, we can handle two. Then suddenly Doggy and Pink Elephant needed another Charlie's Angel and Lamby came into the fray.
Yellow Crab was a questionable addition. Questionable only in that he's kind of big, but she insisted and as you can see, Yellow Crab functions as a pillow. Gotta give her points for resourcefulness on that one. So now all of the above are regulars and she'll take in the occasion stray depending on the day. Honorary loveys include Monkey (as shown above),Strawberry (as in Shortcake) and her baby. During her recent week long crib strike, I was able to snap some pictures of her and her buddies. The future son-in-law will surely want to see these some day. I have to prepare him.
p.s. We're good on the stuffed animals. She's not getting a California King to accommodate sleeping with any more!

I'm laughing and shaking my head. I just put Grant to bed with: His sock monkey (monkey), little ugly doll (ug-y), 3 rabbits (rabbit, stripe and bunny), a pig (pig), light up constellation turtle (tuttle), taggie blanket (nigh nigh) and THREE blankets (bwinkets). I turned on his lullabye frog (fwog fwog) and ducked out of the room. I wasn't sure that other kids went to bed with so much stuff. I see now that there is at least one more, lol!!!

Love the shots and commentary! The Boss is too cute - I sure hope Cori doesn't need half the zoo to accompany her to sleep!
And very interesting self-swaddle method. I'm taking notes on that one!!

Henry's new bedtime friend is his TRUCK BOOK. Yes, a book. It keeps slipping down the cracks behind his bed and I hear a screeching wail of "TRUCK BOOOOOOOOOK" for the last few nights.

well, i think i've probably got your all beat... we've got at least 8 stuffed animals (most of the zoo actually) a plastic helocopter and usually two books. the scenario goes like this: we get changed for bedtime, we read 3-4 books, all of his choice and in his preferred order. then one last book (or two) is chosen we start to read it for him and he has to finish it (in the dark). then we turn on the music box, stay goodnight to great great grandma and g-aunt minnie and g-uncle harry (who contributed to most of his book collection before passing). then we duck out and turn off the light. anything short of that results in a massive cry...

I'm so glad we aren't alone with all the bedtime critters. A kid I used to babysit took his plastic tools to bed! We definitely have necessary reading before bed. I forgot to say that after we're done reading, she's often whining "Read! Read! Read!" because the amount we read was not enough. I'm thinking that's a pretty good stalling tactic, but it doesn't work on me!

i was the same way--i slept in that self-swaddling position (though usually i bent my elbows so my little fists were up under my chinnychin. and i always wanted lots of weird stuffed animals (octopus, dragon) and books around. i still often fall asleep with a book under my head.

I had many stuffed animals when I was little....but I guess I was OCD from a very young age because my mom said I had them on a rotation schedule of who got to sleep with me each night. Very efficient.

I think this had to have been my bed/crib when I was a child. I had more stuffed animals than any child should (my mom only got rid of them a few years ago). She looks so cute in the photos surrounded by all her buddies.
