Time to face the change.

Things are a changin' over here at The Spice Rack. It's all about the change of seasons and new life adventures for me and The Boss.

I can't get enough of the cool breezes blowin' this way. I can practically smell the apple cider in the wind. Despite the fact that evenings require a cardigan or a sweatshirt, our want for ice cream has not wavered! The Boss couldn't be more happy about our committment to this. The Boss started school this week and by day three the report was that she was laughing a lot and using her words all day. She had been pretty happy there the two days prior, but I guess she was still acting a little reserved. She's like her mama, slow to warm up to new things. By the look of her clothes at the end of the day three, there was no doubt she had fun. You see, this mama made a rookie mistake. I sent her to school in a white shirt. Well, um, yeah, there's this sand box there and other 'explore and get dirty' things to play with outside and she came home looking like she had been living in the sandbox for a week. I didn't care one bit though because Hank said she was a squealing fool when he picked her up. There's been another welcomed side effect of her going to school. She's totally worn out and sleeping fabulously. I've had to wake her up every morning vs. her waking me up. I've only had this experience once or twice in her life. Hey, it's the little things, people!

My Woman of Leisure status ends on Monday. Can I admit to my excitement though? I don't know if I've ever been this excited about a job. I'm a little nervous, but mostly excited. Does my brain still work the same way it once did? I guess we'll soon find out. I think all I did this week was new job prep work which included an insane amount of paperwork, drug testing (I passed if you were worried), getting poked and prodded, fingerprinted for an FBI check (really, I'm not even important), and vowing to give up my first born son. Ok, not really on the last bit, but it sure felt like it at times. Oh, and my daily commute either on the bus or the train means Guranteed Knitting Time. Good thing, 'cause I have some major knitting mojo going on right now.

Cooler temps meant I picked up the wool again. I finished up this dreamy, pillowy soft cotton number for a soon to come 2008 babe (photos after it is gifted) and decided to knit The Boss something for this fall. I'm hoping it won't be too big because I'm making a size quite a bit larger than she is now. But now that she's getting bigger, I want stuff to have more shelf life. I want my handknits for her to last as long as possible. We'll see how it goes since her well child visit a few weeks ago indicates she's in the 90th percentile for height and 70th percentile for weight. I might be safe. It's my first top-down sweater construction so I can actually try it on her as I go. I'm not above putting too-big clothing items on her. See above matchy-matchy Father/Daughter Columbia sweatshirt!

Here's a sneak peek.
I think more girls should wear blue, don't you? I fell in love with this color and I think it will look smashing on her. Side note: It's too bad that Queen Anne's lace is considered a weed because I always think it's so pretty. Not that I picked it from my yard or anything. Heck no, my yard doesn't have weeds!

I think I'm going to pick all of my basil this weekend and make a big freezer batch of pesto. There are definitely some things I'll miss about summer! Have a good weekend, friends.

Henry just waved hello at Amelia's picture. Good grief, you are a ridiculously cute family!

I love blue on girls, and Corinne wears plenty of it! And you make Pesto too?! Don't be surprised to find me on your doorstep then one day with crusty bread in hand...
