The Grandma stash.

As I mentioned in my last post, we spent one of our weekend days with my aunt, uncle, and my cousins. My aunt had mentioned to me months ago that she still had all of my grandmother's knitting supplies so I wanted to take a looksy while we were there. My grandmother taught me how to knit when I was in 7th grade. She had surgery on her knees and I spent weeks over one summer staying with her. There was obviously a lot of time to kill in between waking up, learning the proper way to iron dress shirts and drapes (I'm a nut about ironing as a result) and watching Jeopardy, so she taught me to knit. If only she could see that I picked it up again!

So my aunt unearthed a box from the closet and my cousin Whitney and I went through the stash, the needles, and oh, the patterns! There were some really good classics that would work well in today's world, a book of stitch patterns, and then there were the true gems. Look what y'all are getting for your birthday! If you don't need some fringe adding to your width, perhaps you'll fancy this sparkly wonder on your head:

It's your choice!

This was an interesting pattern find. The Raglan Sweater Wheel!
Going through all of the goods really made me miss my grandmother, but it also made me feel really connected to her. Especially when I got to her button tin. A (now)vintage cookie tin, of course. At least I assume it is.It seems as I get older, the stuff I love is a lot older, too. Funny how that happens.

Dude, that sparkly hat is made anew in Stitch and Bitch.

I have my grandmother's knitting stuff as well, but the biggest score is her Denise set.

My mom found some of my grandma's knitting stuff in her sewing box and I had a very similar post planned for my blog. I just have not yet gotten around to it. Looks like you have some real gems there! I too would love to see the raglan sweater wheel in person!

So true! It might explain my love of vintage purses and Christmas decorations, too.

I love these posts. I've been begging my Grandma to officially write down somewhere that I get her massive tins and jars of buttons!!!

Can Cori get a sparkley sequinned hat too? And although my bday is in March, I think Molly would want me to wear it for her wedding in December.
